Overview

The final project is a major component of the course and is intended to provide hands-on experience conducting research in computer vision or a closely related area.

Team Formation

  • Teams of approximately 3-5 students
  • Project ideas and team formation will be supported through Piazza
  • Once your team is formed, please register it using the project sign-up sheet and list all team members

Milestones & Timeline

  • Written proposal (due): Oct 2 EOD, problem/motivation, related work, and direction, submitted in writing only (no oral presentation)
  • Progress presentation: Oct 21 & Oct 26 (dedicated days), oral presentation of project progress
  • Poster session: Dec 7, final poster presentation
  • Report submission: Dec 9, final report

Presentation Schedule

  • Most teams will present during two dedicated project presentation days on Oct 21 and Oct 26
  • The remaining teams will present in regular lecture (after the two paper presentations), roughly one team per lecture, spreaded across the lectures in the ~2-3 weeks before and after the two dedicated days
  • A tentative schedule is listed on the sign-up sheet, but it may still be adjusted

Any dates or details on this page that are not yet specified will be announced in class as they approach.

Written Proposal

Submitted in writing only, no oral presentation.

The proposal should cover:

  • Problem / motivation
  • Related work
  • Overall direction or ideas you are considering

Progress Presentation

  • 7 min: presentation
  • 3 min: Q&A and feedback

Cover:

  • Problem/motivation and related work
  • Method
  • Progress so far
  • Experimental setup, planned baselines and evaluation metrics
  • Preliminary results (bring as much as you can)
  • Remaining work / next steps

Final Report

The final report should follow a CVPR-style paper format and include, at minimum:

  • Abstract
  • Introduction
  • Related Work
  • Method
  • Experiments
  • Conclusion and Limitations

The report should clearly describe the problem, technical approach, experimental setup, results, analysis, and limitations of the project. At the end of the report, include a brief contribution statement indicating the specific component(s) of the project led by each team member. Every team member should be responsible for at least one specific and meaningful part of the project.
